Vancouver's Nickelback Are As Hot As Montreal's Expos Are Not

With their second album perched at #10 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and their most recent single, “How You Remind Me,” topping the Modern Rock Tracks chart while sitting in the top 10 on five other Billboard charts, Nickelback are demonstrating an across-the-board appeal that confirms these Canadians have arrived in the U.S.

And with a new single from Silver Side Up and a new video waiting just around the bend, the band isn’t likely to disappear anytime soon.

“Too Bad” officially hits radio this week, though many stations have already been playing it. Veteran director Nigel Dick shot a video for the song in Vancouver on November 19 and 20, and the clip will probably start airing early next year, a band spokesperson said.

The video features plenty of live footage along with various shots that reveal a dysfunctional family, the spokesperson explained. These include scenes of a tearful mother arguing with her son, the rebellious son flinging a mop at his parents and a set of dog tags dangling from a crucifix. As the video progresses, the son storms off, flips his car and is pulled out of the wrecked vehicle to be taken away in an ambulance.

Over the next week, Nickelback will play several major East Coast cities including Boston, New York and Fairfax, Virginia. Tour dates are scheduled through February 3 in Ottawa, Ontario, and more are expected to follow.
