The taste of ink is sweet these days for the Used, who have signed on for next year’s Vans Warped Tour and will likely ink an agreement soon with another major summer outing.
“Ozzfest too, I think. We are crossing our fingers,” joked singer Bert McCracken, who, as Kelly Osbourne’s boyfriend, has a pretty decent foot in the door.
McCracken said the Used will tour through October, beginning in January, headlining a West Coast trek with Taking Back Sunday, New Transit Direction and the Blood Brothers. An East Coast stint will follow in February with Finch, the Movielife and My Chemical Romance.
Coinciding with the January outing, the Used will release “Buried Myself Alive” as their next single, following “The Taste of Ink” and “A Box Full of Sharp Objects.”
“It means a lot of different things, so hopefully people can just take it for what it means to them,” McCracken said of the song. “It would take an hour for me to try to explain what it’s about for me. It’s about a girl. It’s about drugs. It’s about loss. It’s about being alive, about living.”
The Used are reading treatments and meeting with directors for a video. “We like to have a lot of say in any creative part of our band,” drummer Branden Steineckert noted between dressing-room renditions of “Maneater” and “Cum on Feel the Noize” at KROQ-FM’s Almost Acoustic Christmas.
The band’s self-titled debut was released in June.
