On the track, Graham elaborates,
‘Adjacent’ is a very blunt song about trying and failing. A few years back, I drove to Chicago to see a girl. I had just lost my job, so I had no money, no serious responsibilities and figured what better way to expend the little energy and motivation that I did have on pursuing the relationship. In the back of my mind, I think I knew I didn’t stand a chance, but I ignored my gut feeling and went for it. What came out of the experience is ‘Adjacent.’ On one hand, it’s a tale of bravery, encouraging listeners to trust their intuition even when things seem impossible. On the other hand, it’s a true story about losing. Things didn’t go the way I hoped they would, and I didn’t get the girl, but I needed to write this song to come to terms with that.
