At long last, Ontario-based twin duo Softcult has officially revealed the details for their debut full-length record, When A Flower Doesn’t Grow. Inspired by Alexander Den Heijer’s quote—”When a flower doesn’t bloom, you fix the environment in which it grows, not the flower”— the LP is set for release on January 30, 2026, via Easy Life Records. Alongside the album announcement, the duo launched the official video for “16/25,” a shimmering, shoegazey grunge tune with a vital message.
Mercedes Arn-Horn says of the song, “It points out the cognitive dissonance men perpetuate while trying to possess and control younger women.”
Sharing more on the album, the siblings share on Instagram, “When we started, we had no expectations, no assurances of what the future might hold. All we knew at the time was that we wanted to make art that was meaningful to us and had the potential to resonate with others in a purposeful way. We vowed to do things on our own terms, with the creative freedom to make the art that we want to make and say what we want to say without compromise.”

They add, “We’ve been lucky enough to accomplish a lot since then, but we’ve never had the opportunity to build a world around our music and tell our story in the form of a full-length body of work until now. Releasing a debut album is a milestone in our career, and we’re so grateful to share this moment with all of you.”
Softcult concludes, “This album is a conceptual work about the internal metamorphosis of revolution; written from the perspective of someone who has been radicalized by traumatic experiences, empowered by their own resilience, and who ultimately heals and blossoms into the person they were always meant to be in spite of an environment that tried to break them.”
