Los Angeles’ Smile Empty Soul have plenty to smile about. The band’s self-titled debut is officially #1 on Billboard’s New Artist Chart and New Alternative Artist Chart, outselling buzz bands such as Hot Hot Heat, Rooney, Interpol and Fountains of Wayne. The band’s pulverizing, intense debut which was released on Lava Records May 27th, explores a variety of current topics and already, its become one of the most sought after alternative records this year.
Smile Empty Soul’s album is fueled by the compelling and controversial lead track Bottom of a Bottle. The song is currently the #10 alternative track in the country and was recently upped to BLOW TORCH rotation by MTV2. The band also hosted MTV2’s highly rated Rock Show program the week of July 21st. Smile Empty Soul is currently criss-crossing the U.S. with LA rockers Trapt and are confirmed to appear on select headline dates and radio festivals.
Smile Empty Soul are vocalist/lyricist Sean Danielsen, bassist Ryan Martin and drummer Derek Gledhill. The band formed in 1999 and regularly performed locally in Santa Clarita and the Sunset Strip. The guys signed with Thro Back Records in 2001 and began working on what would become their debut album. The album was recorded by producer John Lewis Parker at Suburban Hell studios in California.
