SmackDown! Records, the music label of World Wrestling Federation Entertainment, will offer its first new artist release this fall with Neurotica, the eponymously titled new album from the hard hitting Florida-based band.
“We are going to be releasing two to three new artists per year, and we’re excited that our first new artist is a band as strong and talented as Neurotica,” said Ron McCarrell, President, SmackDown! Records. “We want SmackDown! Records to be known for finding and developing unique musical talent, and for effectively using the marketing power of World Wrestling Federation Entertainment and its various media platforms to get that talent recognized.”
Neurotica was produced by Doug Kaye, President of the production company, Eleventh Hour Entertainment, and mixed by Kevin Shirley, known for his work with Aerosmith and The Black Crowes. The album features high-intensity, hard rockin’ tunes like “Ride Of Your Life,” “All My Friends Crush You,” and “Up In The Hay,” and radio friendly power ballads like “Said She.” “To me, they’re an amalgamation of lots of rock influences,” declares Kaye, “with the common ingredients being equal parts melody and aggression.”
“We’re influenced by many different types of music,” confirms singer Kelly Shaefer, “but what’s really important to us is the emotion that certain songs provoke. On stage we have an extremely high energy level that we combine with big musical, melodic hooks.”
Neurotica recently performed at the annual Livestock festival in their home state for the fourth consecutive year, playing on the prestigious Sunday afternoon slot in front of 27,000 ecstatic fans. The band has signed with the Evolution Talent Agency – which handles many rock and pop superstar titans. Now with World Wrestling Federation Entertainment promotion and marketing behind them, Neurotica is set to make an even bigger mark nationwide.
“We have great ways to turn people onto them,” says SmackDown! A&R man Benjie Gordon. “We can expose the music and the band’s personality to a great number of music fans through various World Wrestling Federation media outlets.”
Everyone involved with the project feels that Neurotica is going to become a household word following the release this fall. “This is a very, very tough rock band,” declares Kevin Shirley, “one of the best I’ve ever heard.”
