One of Mexico’s most beloved singers, Juan Gabriel, was honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
More than 1,000 people gathered Friday on Hollywood Boulevard to watch the singer-songwriter receive his star, which he dedicated to mothers everywhere.
The ceremony came a day after Gabriel swept the Billboard Latin Music Awards, picking up trophies for best songwriter, track of the year, airplay track of the year and track of the year for a vocal duo.
“I want to thank everyone here, and everyone who’s listened to me and supported me since 1971,” he said in Spanish. “You’re the reason why I stand here today.”
He sang an impromptu rendition of one of his most popular tunes, “Amor Eterno” (Eternal Love), and spent about 15 minutes greeting fans who had spent hours waiting.
