Sincere Engineer‘s lead vocalist Deanna Belos is celebrating her birthday with none other than The Lawrence ArmsBrendan Kelly. The two teamed up to deliver a brand-new collab, “Parting Gift” to help Belos begin a new year in the best way possible.

Belos shares, “My new song ‘Parting Gift’ is a sort of confessional song about me being weird and about me navigating my relationship with music and navigating my life, the best I can with the knowledge and skills I have, which is sometimes not enough.”

She adds, “I can’t even begin to explain what an honor it is to have my biggest musical inspiration, Brendan Kelly from The Lawrence Arms, featured on this song!”

“Parting Gift” Lyrics:

I was born among the flowers in a plastic vase
On a windowsill in a hospital room
Yeah, they cut me out, I’m a parting gift
30 years later, torn between 2
All my pedals to the ground cuz I can never slow down
A speeding ticket and an ultrasound
Yeah, this wasn’t on the ultrasound

I’m an only child, disconnected
Calculated every movement
Wished upon the moon when it wasn’t there
I never even had a lesson
I got chances more than slim
I felt like a parting gift that you picked up on a whim
Drop me in the middle of the ocean and expected me to swim

I was born under the water in another state
At the top of a hill where the flowers bloom
The world pulled me in, I’m a parting gift
30 years later I turned into someone new
All my petals to the ground
A gift receipt and a wedding gown
Last seen at the lost and found
Yeah, they got me at the lost and found

1992
Don’t wanna be in your shoes
One day you’ll feel good as new
Gold and baby blue
Gold and baby blue

I’m a only child, disconnected
Calculated every movement
Wished upon the moon when it wasn’t there
I never even had a lesson
I got chances more than slim
I felt like a parting gift that you picked up on a whim
Drop me in the middle of the ocean and expected me to swim (x4)
