An impressive all-star lineup will take the stage for the 2nd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards on September 11. Ricky Martin will be making a special appearance and Caetano Veloso is set to perform, it was announced today by Michael Greene, President/CEO of the Recording Academy ® and Latin Recording Academy ®.
Marc Anthony, Luis Miguel, Alejandro Sanz with Destiny’s Child, Juanes, Hevia, Santana, Thalia, and Alejandro and Vicente Fernandez are among those performing during the live telecast. The show will be co-hosted by Christina Aguilera and Jimmy Smits, will originate from the Forum in Los Angeles, and be broadcast on the CBS Television Network from 9-11 p.m. (EDT/PDT).
Current nominee for Best Music Video, superstar Ricky Martin, won a GRAMMY at the 41st Annual GRAMMY Awards for Best Latin Pop Performance.
GRAMMY ® and Latin GRAMMY-winning artist Caetano Veloso is currently nominated three times in two categories. He earned a nomination for Best MPB (Musica Popular Brasiliera) Album for Noites do Norte, and two nominations for songwriting in the Best Brazilian Song (Portuguese Language) category for “Sou seu Sabia” and “Zera a Reza.”
The latest line-up of presenters include GRAMMY Award-winning artist LL Cool J; nominees Andrea Echeverri, vocalist for Aterciopelados, and Fito Paez, last year’s Latin GRAMMY winner for Best Male Rock Vocal Performance; Academy Award-winning actor Cuba Gooding Jr.; Latin GRAMMY-winners Los Tigres del Norte; actor and humanitarian Edward James Olmos; comedian/actor Paul Rodriguez; actress Roselyn Sanchez, recently featured in the box office smash Rush Hour 2; and Cuban jazz legend Chucho Valdes.
Juanes leads the nominations for 2nd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards with seven, Alejandro Sanz earned five. In addition, a diverse contingent of artists – Aterciopelados, Gilberto Gil, Fito Paez, Gustavo Santaolalla and Caetano Veloso – each earned three nominations; Christina Aguilera, Vicente Amigo, Placido Domingo, Paulina Rubio, and Chucho Valdes each earned two nominations.
The 2nd Annual Latin GRAMMY Awards will be telecast by CBS domestically, and broadcast on radio via Westwood One/the Hispanic Broadcasting Corporation worldwide. The ceremony will boast awards in 38 key categories covering many genres and sub-genres of Latin music and will feature performances from some of the genre’s biggest artists.
