It seems South Africa Day’s concert at Trafalgar Square, right under Nelson’s Column in London may be a little bigger than expected this year.
According to the London Sun, playing at the gig will be rock and roll juggernauts REM along with The Corrs, Pop stars Atomic Kitten, and traditional South African muso’s Ladysmith Black Mambazo.
The audience is expected to reach numbers of several hundred thousand people with Nelson Mandela himself possibly making an appearence.
On the weekend in Georgia, REM made an turned up in the audience of a U2 show in Atlanta.
The first single from their Reveal album “Imitation Of Life” will be available for retail as a maxi-single from May 8.
Released on both CD and 12″ vinyl, the single will feature 3 additional B-sides.
The original version of “The Lifting” will be included as well as the first demo version of “Beat A Drum.”
A non-album track will round out the line up. “2JN” is a 3 1/2 minute instrumental and will only be released on the maxi-CD.
But wait, there’s more! The CD version will include an enhanced CD portion that will contain the video for “Imitation Of Life,” as well as lyrics. The 12″ version will be coloured vinyl in a clear sleeve.
