Papa Roach’s upcoming album, lovehatetragedy, may find the group gravitating from rap-rock to a more straightforward rock sound, but that doesn’t mean the band has abandoned hip-hop entirely. The group plans to pay homage to the style as part of its set on the upcoming Anger Management tour, which also features Eminem, Ludacris, and Xzibit.
Papa Roach frontman Jacoby Shaddix said. “We’re gonna do, like, a medley of, like, just flip a bunch of hip-hop classics, like the hooks, so, you know, for the fans that are like, ‘OK, we like this band but…’ Like, in the middle of the set we’re just gonna flip and do, like, I think we’re gonna do ‘Scenario,’ ‘California (Love),’ by Dr. Dre, Tupac…I have them all written down. We’re gonna go in and, like, just put them all in the same key and just do, like, three minutes of all these classics, you know, just to flip it around for the hip-hop heads to be like, ‘Hey, this band can set it off,’ you know?”
The Anger Management tour kicks off July 18 at the HSBC Arena in Buffalo. Papa Roach’s lovehatetragedy arrives in stores June 18 from DreamWorks Records.
