Outkast, Pharrell Williams and Kid Rock are among the initial performers announced for the VH1 Big in ’03 awards.
Matchbox Twenty and Shania Twain are also slated to provide a soundtrack for the second-annual pop culture celebration, which will tape November 20 at the Universal Amphitheatre near Los Angeles.
Presenters lined up so far include Beyoncé, Jessica Simpson and Nick Lachey, Paris and Nikki Hilton, David Spade, Paula Abdul, D.L. Hughley, Vivica Fox, Joe Rogan and cast members of “The OC.”
The show, which will air November 30 at 9 p.m., honors the biggest noisemakers of 2003 in entertainment, news, politics and gossip.
Tossing aside the traditional awards show format, the Big in ’03 categories include the Big Wow Moment, Really Big Reality Star, Big Entertainer, Big One-Liner, Biggest Celebrity Trend, Big on the Web, Biggest Gay Hero, Made it Big, Big Goodbye and Biggest Guilty Pleasure. The list of nominees and voting details will soon be available at www.vh1.com.
Last year’s winners included Ice Cube, who took the Shakespeare in Da Hiz-zouse award for best actor in a movie and Vanessa Carlton, who walked away with the Can’t Get You Out of My Head award for the most ubiquitous single.
A host or hosts for this year’s show will be announced at a later date. Drea De Matteo and Michael Imperioli from “The Sopranos” hosted last year’s ceremony.
Tickets for the event go on sale to the public beginning October 25 through Ticketmaster.
