NOAHFINNCE weaves a spellbinding narrative in his latest music video for “SCUMBAG,” drawing inspiration from the enchanting world of Harry Potter. The alt-artist, who initially dropped the track in October, uses this magical realm to shed light on issues of transphobia and confront TERFs (trans-exclusionary radical feminists). Evoking the nostalgia of J.K. Rowling‘s iconic book series and the subsequent film adaptations that captivated audiences in the late ’90s and early/mid-2000s, NOAHFINNCE transforms the familiar wizarding world into a canvas for his powerful message. Despite the enchantment of Harry Potter, recent statements from Rowling have shifted the narrative, prompting discussions about the protection of womanhood.

In a series of 2020 tweets, which are still on her Twitter/X account, she ignorantly penned, “If sex isn’t real, there’s no same-sex attraction. If sex isn’t real, the lived reality of women globally is erased. I know and love trans people, but erasing the concept of sex removes the ability of many to meaningfully discuss their lives. It isn’t hate to speak the truth…The idea that women like me, who’ve been empathetic to trans people for decades, feeling kinship because they’re vulnerable in the same way as women – ie, to male violence – ‘hate’ trans people because they think sex is real and has lived consequences – is a nonsense.”

In a captivating reclamation of the enchantment found within the Harry Potter world, NOAHFINNCE unveils his mesmerizing new video as the “‘Boy’ Who Lies.” The alt-artist introduces his latest track with a seamless fusion of distorted guitar melodies, shimmering synths, and pointed lyrics, crafting a spellbinding sonic experience. With evocative lines such as, “But joy can be found in the dark/Words that were spat at the boy with the mark,” and “I am what I am, and I won’t be ashamed/I take Umbridge with hate that you scratched on your page/This ‘inclusion delusion’/And ‘gender confusion’/Why are you assuming there’s room for debate?” NOAHFINNCE draws throughlines to a narrative of acceptance and love, skillfully dismantling the recent messages of hate and anti-trans remarks from Rowley and other transphobic individuals.

Additionally, amid a myriad of headlines within the notorious Daily Prophet newspaper, NOAHFINNCE boldly confronts transphobia with striking headers reading, “GENDER BENDERS,” “INCLUSIVITY CULT,” “ARE YOU AN OPPRESSOR? TEST YOURSELF NOW,” “TRANS-TUBER HIDING IN THE FOREST, WAITING TO TRANS YOUR KIDS!”

He continues, “Growing up, I never had the confidence to be myself and frankly I was embarrassed just to exist. Until I found you guys and my community on here, I didn’t really feel like I deserved to be a person. Obviously…Growing Up On The Internet has had it’s toll. It’s not a natural/normal human experience to develop as a person in front of hundreds of thousands of eyes but thinking back I’d never change a thing. This album is about exactly that – I only recently began processing how fucked up so many of my experiences on here have been. And I’m sure a lot of you who’ve grown up like me or are growing up with unrestricted access to the internet right now will find solace in the words that I’ve written.”

“I never set out to write an album about this but I guess I never really set out to do anything in my life. The tracklist is full of angry trans songs, songs about not knowing what’s wrong with you and songs that are honestly…just a little bit of silly fun. I could not be more thankful to everybody who was involved in making this and I could never express how grateful I am to you guys for getting me to where I am now.”
