Nashville singer-songwriter and producer Nicole Alexis, aka N/A, has just revealed some exciting news. Not only is she back with her new song, “Goodbye,” but she is also the newest signee to Hard Working Record Company.

The artist says of her label debut, “‘Goodbye’ is really about mourning an older version of yourself. It’s about outgrowing patterns, relationships, and identities that once felt safe, even when they were hurting you. I wanted the song to capture that emotional tension between wanting to move forward while still desperately trying to hold onto what’s familiar.”

N/A offers an utterly ethereal performance, where her vocals truly shine atop the stripped-back acoustic strums. Check out the new single below.

idobi Radio had the chance to catch up with the rising Nashville artist about her recent signing, her most recent EP, and what comes next in her musical journey. Check it out!

What made Hard Working Record Company the right label home for you, and what are you most excited for when it comes to working with them?

What stood out to me about Hard Working Record Company from the beginning was that they cared about who I am as an artist instead of trying to fit me into a box. I’ve spent a lot of time figuring out what I actually want to say with my music, and it felt like they really understood that vision and wanted to help amplify it rather than change it.

I’m most excited to have a team that believes in the long game. I’ve always been very hands-on. I write, produce, and spend a lot of time building the creative world around each release so having people who can help bring those songs to a larger audience while still letting me stay true to myself is something I’ve been hoping for. It feels like the beginning of a really exciting chapter.

Of your Mirrors And Smoke EP, you shared that “it felt like finally turning that lens onto my own stories.” What story did you want to share with “Goodbye,” and does it continue a narrative from the EP or does it begin a brand new chapter for you in your music journey?

“Goodbye” is both an ending and a beginning. On Mirrors And Smoke, I spent a lot of time unpacking different experiences and learning how to be more honest in my writing. “Goodbye” is about letting go of an old version of yourself and choosing to move forward anyway.

The song isn’t really about saying goodbye to another person as much as it is saying goodbye to fear, old habits, and the version of yourself that keeps you from growing. That’s something I think a lot of people experience, especially when they’re stepping into a new season of life.

For me personally, it also marks a new creative chapter. I feel like I’ve become much more confident in the music I’m making and the stories I want to tell. Instead of trying to write what I think people want to hear, I’m writing what feels true to me. I think that’s where the best songs come from.

What is one musical goal you hope to achieve by the end of the year?

My biggest goal is to keep building a genuine connection with people through music. Whether that’s reaching new listeners, playing more live shows, or releasing more songs that people can really see themselves in, that’s what matters most to me.

I also want to keep pushing myself creatively. Every release teaches me something new, and I want to continue growing not just as a songwriter, but as a producer and performer too. If I finish the year feeling like people know me a little better through my music, I’d consider that a huge success.
