Pretoria — “Emerson, Everywhere”
Pretoria is just what the doctor ordered for anyone stuck in a music rut. This indie-rock track has the bright melodies, “oh-ohs,” and dreamy guitar strums to hook you in on its first note. “Emerson, Everywhere” is the first single from the Chicago-via-Grand Rapids band’s forthcoming EP, If We’re Pretending, due out on June 13. Good Boy Daisy — “Supermodel”
Identical twin sisters Hallie and Dylinn Mayes, aka Good Boy Daisy, did it again with their single “Supermodel.” And by “it,” I mean release a summery banger that will be on repeat all day. Previously releasing “Running From The Headlines” back in February, the duo raised the bar for high-energy, groovy, and bass-heavy pop rock. Sonically, “Supermodel” feels like a beach party, riding through town with your roof down, and all the freedom that comes with the warmest season of the year. — Maria Serra
joan — “body language”
Alt-pop duo joan just released the steamiest song of the season with their bright new single, “body language” via Photo Finsih With lyrics like, “I got those first day flutters don’t know why i’m feeling nervous/But if you want to teach me I’ll take notes I’ll be your student/Yeah, we can stay up all day all night until I am fluent.” Excuse us if we need a minute to cool down because this track is hot, hot, hot. And joan isn’t stopping here, the group announced their forthcoming this won’t last forever, due out later this year. — Maria Serra
Perennial — “Baby, Are You Abstract?”
Perennial’s new single “Baby, Are You Abstract?” is a funky, frenetic blast of arty punk energy—equal parts dancefloor chaos and sonic collage. It anchors “A” Is For Abstract: The Complete Art History, out on June 6, a 23-track celebration of the band’s 2024 breakthrough and a decade of fearless experimentation, reworks, and boundary-pushing brilliance. The band is also gearing up to hit the road this weekend for their spring/summer tour dates. —Paige Owens
I Prevail — “Violent Nature”
The new era of I Prevail has begun, and they have burst out of the gates with the heaviest song of their career on “Violent Nature.” Two minutes and 10 seconds of all gas, no breaks, it’s nothing but pummeling riffs and breakdowns. Vocalist Eric Vanlerberghe sounds pissed as fuck and this track is further proof he’s in the upper echelon of metal vocalists. —Patrick Walford
Electric Callboy — “Revery”
Just in time for summer, Electric Callboy gets sp00ky on their new single “Revery.” Filled with nothing but their signature infectious EDM/synth-laden melodies/riffs, instantly memorable choruses with breakdowns that hit just right every time, this is a textbook EC banger that fans have come to love and expect. This is THE track you are going to blast with your windows down while the warm weather rolls in. —Patrick Walford
Psycho-Frame — “Blueprints For Idol Genocide”
The opening track to Psycho-Frame’s newly announced debut full-length, Salvation Laughs At The Face Of A Grieving Mother (out July 25 via Sharptone), “Blueprint For Idol Genocide” is an explosive intro track that will have metal fans using the term br00t4l to describe its heaviness like it’s 2007 on Myspace all over again. This is no frills, heavy as fuck blend of death metal combined with a fresh, chaotic urgency of slam, deathcore, and beyond. This is your favorite heavy band’s favorite heavy band, and they should be yours, too. —Patrick Walford
