Uh oh… My Chemical Romance has entered the “online discourse,” and long-time fans are clashing with “casual” fans. My Chemical Romance has just kicked off their Long Live The Black Parade tour, and some ticket holders took to social media to describe their surprise and perhaps upset with the band for their political themes.
At the Seattle date, Gerard Way held an “election” with the crowd who “voted” for hooded “candidates” in the center of the stadium. In classic MCR theatrical fashion, these hooded figures were “executed” and taken out in body bags. “Thank you so very much for participating in democracy,” Way said, cheekily.
Other theatrical acts included Ray Toro, Frank Iero, and Mikey Way being kidnapped while Gerard “died.” Oh, and who could forget the suicide bomber clown?
Per The Mirror US, one Facebook user described the political stunt as “weird demonic shit.” Plus, some TikTok users took direct aim at one concert-goer in cowboy boots who shared a video with the caption, “My discernment actively trying to make sense of all this ‘theatrical propaganda.'”
Many social media users took to TikTok to remind everyone that My Chemical Romance began after Gerard saw the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Additionally, the lyrics for tracks such as “Teenagers” and the album concept of Danger Days are all inherently political. Or, more recently, the tour trailer and poster evoke political messages with dictatorial visuals. Some users pointed out that, regardless of the artist in question, all punk and most rock music is political.

So, for those ticket holders who may be upset by the contents of the concert… there are many fans eagerly awaiting the opportunity to see MCR and will take them off your hands.
Of course, many attendees on the first day of the tour had an excellent time and even made jokes about the theatrical election.
