MusicNet, the music subscription joint venture between AOL Time Warner Inc., Bertelsmann AG, EMI Group Plc and RealNetworks Inc., added independent record label Zomba to the service, RealNetworks’ top executive said Tuesday.
RealNetworks Chief Executive Rob Glaser, speaking at Jupiter Media Metrix PlugIn music conference here, said the label, which includes such artists as +Nsync and Britney Spears, would join Warner Music Group, BMG Entertainment and EMI as the service’s label partners.
MusicNet was conceived as an alternative to the once popular song-swapping service Napster, which is currently laboring under a court-imposed injunction after being successfully sued by the five largest record labels for copyright infringement.
