Top female artists including Destiny’s Child, Dido and Janet Jackson have been lined up to perform at the MTV Europe music awards later this year, the music television channel says.
“The high caliber of the artists illustrates the importance of the event and reinforces its position as Europe’s premier awards show,” Brent Hansen, president and chief executive of MTV Networks Europe, said in a statement.
“Bootylicious” Destiny’s Child, one of the best-selling female bands, has been churning out hits and their sassy, hip-hop infused brand of R&B has kept the Houston-based trio in the charts this year.
Janet Jackson, sister of 1980s superstar Michael, is currently riding high on the success of her latest album “All for You,” and will be appearing at the European Music Awards for the first time, MTV said.
British singer/songwriter Dido, who continues to enjoy international success with her four times platinum album “Angel,” is also making her debut on stage at the awards ceremony.
The awards, to be held in Frankfurt on November 8, will be screened live on MTV and will be shown on Channel 4 television in the days following.
MTV said Channel 4 would also produce a series of eight half-hour editions of its U.S. series FANatic, which brings artists face to face with their fans.
The British version would feature made-on-TV band Hear’Say, New York schmoozers Fun Lovin’ Criminals and U.S. hiphop artist Sisqo.
