mgk is gearing up to drop his new album, lost americana, tonight, featuring his pop-infused, dance-inducing singles “cliché,” “vampire diaries,” and “miss sunshine.” Ahead of the August 8 launch, mgk, aka Colson Baker, shared that this album is dedicated to his late friend and professional snowboarder Luke “The Dingo” Trembath, 38. Previously, mgk also wrote and recorded a song just for “Dingo,” entitled “your name forever”—a stunning tribute.
mgk took to social media to share that he’s “dedicating this album to our brother in the sky Dingo. It’s the last piece of music he heard from us before he passed, and he’s been an honorary member of our band since day 1. Tonight’s release isn’t the same without a legendary christening from him, but his spirit is all over the project. Get in your car this weekend, start driving and press play; it’s time for Lost Americana.”
mgk’s bestie and alternative rocker Mod Sun also added, “Let’s the ride begin. Proud of u. Endlessly proud. Watched you evolve + work us ass off + genuinely smile thru it all. It’s been a decade of friendship, this is my favorite chapter so far. Cheers to a beautiful album being born.”
Grab your copy of the album lost americana, available everywhere at midnight on August 8.
