Linkin Park’s Hybrid Theory has been certified triple-platinum by the Recording Industry Association Of America for sales of 3 million copies.
Meanwhile, “In The End,” the third single from Hybrid Theory, is poised to break big. The band’s first two singles, “One Step Closer” and “Crawling,” have already become staples on modern rock radio.
The band performed “One Step Closer” at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony last night (September 6) at New York City’s Metropolitan Opera House.
Guitarist-songwriter Brad Delson told LAUNCH about being at the awards show and what it means to Linkin Park, “Well, it’s a nomination. It’s two nominations, actually-best rock video and best direction-and I heard about it and I was…it’s easy to get jaded because there’s lots of exciting things.”
Delson added, “There’s stuff like that happening all the time. It’s easy to, like, overlook how cool it is, so we really try to appreciate everything like that that comes along. Things like that really elevate the profile of the band in a lot of people’s minds. We’re very happy to be in the company of such amazing groups, as you know, like other groups nominated: Staind, Weezer, Limp Bizkit, you know what I mean? It elevates us to that higher echelon of artistry, if you will.”
