Limp Bizkit Will Still Tour Following Bassist Sam Rivers’ Passing

Limp Bizkit Sam Rivers

Limp Bizkit band members, fans, family members, and the music community at large are mourning the loss of Sam Rivers, who died on October 18. The founding bassist of the band passed away at just 48 years old. New reports reveal that a spokesperson for the St. Johns County, Florida Fire Rescue responded to a call about a “nonresponsive person in cardiac arrest,” per TMZ. Additionally. TMZ revealed that an official noted, “Deputies responded to an attended death at that address.” An official cause of death has not been confirmed.

However, band member DJ Lethal posted an Instagram story with the hashtag “#fuckcancer.” The bassist underwent a liver transplant in 2017 after contracting liver disease from excessive drinking. He stepped away from Limp Bizkit and rejoined in 2018.

Born on September 2, 1977, Rivers cofounded the band alongside drummer John Otto and lead vocalist Fred Durst in 1994. Rivers featured on all of Limp Bizkit’s six full-length albums, including their 1999 breakout album Significant Other and  2000’s Chocolate Starfish And The Hot Dog Flavored Water, which celebrated its 25th anniversary earlier this week on October 16.

The band shared in a tribute, “We shared so many moments – wild ones, quiet ones, beautiful ones — and every one of them meant more because Sam was there. He was a once-in-a-lifetime kind of human. A true legend of legends. And his spirit will live forever in every groove, every stage, every memory.”
