Lennox Wins Golden Globe

Annie Lennox’s “Into the West,” from Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King, won Best Original Song at the 2004 Golden Globe Awards last night in Los Angeles.

The song, which Lennox co-wrote with Howard Shore and Fran Walsh, bested Elton John and Bernie Taupin’s “The Heart of Every Girl” (fromMona Lisa Smile), Pearl Jam’s “Man of the Hour” (from Big Fish), Bono, Gavin Friday and Maurice Seezer’s “Time Enough for Tears” (from In America) and Sting’s “You Will Be My Ain True Love” (performed by Alison Krauss for Cold Mountain).

Rings swept the music categories, also earning a Best Original Score for Shore, who beat out Danny Elfman (Big Fish), Hans Zimmer (The Last Samurai, Gabriel Yared (Cold Mountain) and Alexandre Desplat (Girl With a Pearl Earring).
