The late Nipsey Hussle – musician, businessman, community advocate, philanthropist, and family man – will be posthumously honored with the iconic Humanitarian Award at the 2019 BET Awards. The star-studded event will take place on June 23rd in Nipsey’s hometown of Los Angeles, CA at 8 P.M. The decision to honor the beloved people’s champion was clear, as indicated in a statement from Connie Orlando, Executive Vice-President, Head of Programming at BET:
“As a prolific artist and leader, Nipsey Hussle was zealous about driving change for the betterment of his community, empowering and employing those in need and being an influential and highly respected leader. His passing was a tremendous loss to the entertainment industry and to the culture. We will continue to remember his advocacy and be inspired by the groundwork he set forth and his dire commitment to social change. We are forever grateful, humbled and honored to have experienced his presence and we are invested in doing our part to ensure that the marathon will indeed continue. It is an immense honor for us to recognize him with this year’s Humanitarian Award.”
Among the many who will pay homage to the artist are DJ Khaled, YG, and John Legend. Having been a big part of the BET family Nipsey’s life and work will continue to be celebrated by not only the network but also his community, the culture, and all who recognize him as a prolific leader.
