The KPop Demon Hunters moral panic continues. Sigh. The smash-hit Netflix release, produced by Sony Pictures, arrived in August of this year, and has only gone “up, up, up” in views, ratings, and pop culture awareness. However, some religious people read the word “demon” in the PG animated film title and had to make this about themselves.
Recent reports note that a Christian school in the UK, specifically Lilliput Church of England Infant School, has banned the singing of KPop Demon Hunters songs on its premises. An original note sent to parents and staff revealed that some individuals are “deeply uncomfortable” with references to demons because they “associate them with spiritual forces opposed to God and goodness.”

However, some parents responded to this notion stating that the songs in the K-Pop-forward film offer great lessons for kiddos. Chart-topping release, “Golden,” boasts lyrics such as “I’m done hidin’, now I’m shinin’ like I’m born to be/We dreamin’ hard, we came so far, now I believe/We’re goin’ up, up, up, it’s our moment/You know together we’re glowin’/Gonna be, gonna be golden.” Controversial, right?
The note from school leadership also stated, “We want to reassure you that we are not asking parents to tell their children that there is anything wrong with enjoying the film or its songs if it aligns with your own views and beliefs, and this will not be the messaging we share in the school either. Our role will simply be to help children understand that some of their peers may hold different views and to explore how we can respect and support those peers in upholding their faith.”
Naturally, this isn’t the only instance of Christians claiming the family film about friendship, music, and teamwork is inherently evil. Many TikTokers have claimed that the Netflix release is full of witchcraft.
Anyway, a KPop Demon Hunters sequel has officially been confirmed. Stay tuned!
