Irish Rockers U2 Return To America For Fall Tour

Irish rock band U2, which just finished a European tour, will return to North America in October for 15 arena dates, the group’s promoter said.

The tour will begin on Oct. 10 at the University of Notre Dame in Indiana and will conclude on Nov. 18 in Las Vegas, according to a statement issued on Monday by Clear Channel Entertainment, a unit of Clear Channel Worldwide.

U2 will also play Chicago, Baltimore, New York City, East Rutherford, Providence, Philadelphia, Austin, Denver, Salt Lake City, Los Angeles, Oakland and the Canadian cities of Montreal and Hamilton.

U2 have already grossed an estimated $105 million in ticket sales from their “Elevation Tour 2001,” which consisted of 50 spring dates in North America and 33 shows in Europe, all sold out. Sales were fueled by the popularity of the group’s current album “All That You Can’t Leave Behind,” which yielded three Grammy Awards in February.

As with the first North American leg, fans will pay about $45 each for general admission standing on the floor, a relative bargain at a time when pop singer Madonna charges up to $250 per ticket. The most expensive U2 tickets – targeted at “Mr. and Mrs. Wall Street,” as populist U2 singer Bono said earlier this year – will be $130 each.
