Inbox Jukebox #022 – BANNERS, AViVA, MILCK, Anavae + Klangstof

This is the Inbox Jukebox:

BANNERS – Empires on Fire EP

BANNERS dropped his new EP Empires on Fire today and it’s lovely; just like we knew it would be. He’s created the score for empires ablaze and fireflies to light the night and all the emotion and history and new love you’d expect to go along with them. There’s a quiet strength to each song that swells in every chorus, lifting you up with deep insight into human emotion. BANNERS is a poet who writes lyrics that connect with us on so many levels, and on Empires on Fire that connection is stronger than ever. Some of the songs on the EP you’ll already know and love, some you’re just about to discover—but new or old, the thing about BANNERS’ music is that it stays with you; in it you’ll always find home.

AViVA – “GRRLS”

“GRRLS”, listen, we just got the word: Australian singer/songwriter AViVA has gone through a “creative rebirth” and we’re throwing her a baby shower. You bring the cocktails we’ll bring the defiance (and the confetti). The driving chorus of this newest single “GRRLS” has us pumping our fists and shouting it like an anthem. It’s dark pop laced with ferocity and we’re all in.

MILCK – “Quiet”

Got damn, MILCK just made our day. When she goes into full powerhouse mode on the lyrics “I can’t keep quiet, one woman riot” she rips the gag off women and our voices. “Quiet” is the antidote to all the times we’ve been told to sit still and look pretty…we could do that but MILCK says NO in the most beautiful way possible. “Quiet” is a high-octane ballad, sending its love to the power of owning who you are and who you want to be. The track builds into a crescendo of ‘oh hell no, you shut up and listen—women have got something to say’. Isn’t that the perfect soundtrack for right now? Right! Get ’em, girls.

Anavae – Are You Dreaming EP

We told you before and we’ll tell you again: Anavae’s sound is like hanging out with nothing but thieves on a night in Pvris. The alt-rock duo has finally dropped their EP Are You Dreaming AND we will be “Forever Dancing” just like the second track suggests—prepare to get lifted. Vocalist Rebecca Need-Menear rages over blazing riffs from guitarist Jamie Finch, and the pair whisper dark stories into your ears that will soon fuel your wildest dreams.

Klangstof – Everest EP

Chill. The title song from the new Klangstof EP, “Everest” is 100% chill. Front man Koen Van De Wardt says, “We were in a good place when we recorded this EP…” and we don’t doubt it. The first single takes us on a journey of self-discovery, questing for our own personal high, our own Everest. Up next is the electronic orchestra vibe of “Names”, a track that floats like a butterfly and strikes like Tinkerbell in a pique. We’re digging it. If you need a fix for that Chet Faker withdrawal, Klangstof has the sound you’re looking for.
