Earlier this week, If Not For Me just announced their new album, Where The Light Begins To Fade, set for release on August 18 via Thriller Records. The 12-track LP boasts an array of guest features, and today, the group revealed “Novocaine,” featuring none other than Josh Mowery of Catch Your Breath.

If Not For Me vocalist Patrick Glover shares, “I wrote ‘Novocaine’ about the people in our lives that we’ve lost because they just couldn’t let us in. It’s about the loved ones that so desperately needed help but kept us at arm’s length.”

Glover adds, “It’s about longing to be whatever you need to be in order to save somebody, but they won’t ever let you. There’s not a more helpless feeling than watching someone you care so much about come apart at the seams while knowing there’s nothing you can do about it. ‘You were the fire I can’t contain, so strike the matches, spread the ashes at my feet.'”

He concludes, “On the surface, it may feel like a love song, and it absolutely is, but I had a bit of a deeper/darker intention with it.”
