Hendrix Family Releases Statement on Death Of Bassist Noel Redding

Upon hearing of the death on Sunday (May 11) of Noel Redding, bassist in the band of legendary rock guitarist Jimi Hendrix, The Hendrix Family has issued the following statement:

“We at Experience Hendrix mourn the loss of Noel Redding. His contributions to the Jimi Hendrix Experience shall never be forgotten. Our prayers go out to his family and friends during this difficult time.”

Experience Hendrix is the company formed by the guitar icon’s surviving relatives. The Hendrix catalog is managed by UME.

The Experience trio of Hendrix, Redding and drummer Mitch Mitchell debuted on Are You Experienced? (1967), one of the most stunning premieres in rock history and a definitive album of the psychedelic era. Among the landmark tracks on which Redding played were “Foxey Lady,” “Purple Haze,” “Hey Joe” and “The Wind Cries Mary.” Axis: Bold As Love (1967) followed before Electric Ladyland (1968), which included their timeless cover of Bob Dylan’s “All Along The Watchtower.” Hendrix then dissolved the trio shortly before his tragic death the following year.

Redding was 57 years old (born December 25, 1945).
