Halsey is continuing her support of the Black Lives Matter Movement by creating the Black Creators Funding Initiative.

She is encouraging anyone who is, “an artist, poet, graphic designer, writer, film maker, music producer, journalist, make up artist, or creator of any kind” to apply. Recipients will receive funds to go towards their goals, resources, and promotion from Halsey’s social media platforms.
This initiative will be fully funded by Halsey and her team. Creatives can apply by using the #BLACKCREATORSFUND hashtag on either Twitter or Instagram. She will announce the names of the first recipients on June 18th and hopes to continue for the years to come.
Halsey has been proactive in using her platform to help educate her followers on supporting the black community and what is going on in the world. As a bi-ethnic woman who could pass for white but chooses the totality of her heritage, she’s a great example of showing up and not staying silent. This movement isn’t anywhere near over. She’s kept her momentum and has continued to encourage others to do the same.
Although black women make up less than 7% of the US population, they represent about 10% of all missing persons cases. The Black and Missing Foundation estimates the total number of disappeared black women and girls at 64,000 in 2019.

As the weeks pass, we have to keep fighting. Following and watching leaders like Halsey are a great way to keep your own momentum going. Don’t stop educating yourself, keep signing petitions, keep talking to your friends and family, donate and protest if you can. Hundreds of years of abuse to the black community won’t be fixed in a couple of weeks. Do what you can and do it consistently.
