Did idobi Radio predict the Green Day film?! The short answer: yes and no. Last week, Tate Logan of idobi Radio posted a faux dream casting if Green Day were to ever sign off on a biopic film. In a playful casting suggestion, Logan envisioned Josh Hutcherson as Tré Cool, Jack Dylan Grazer as Billie Joe Armstrong, and Melrose Avenue drummer Jed McIntosh, who closely resembles bassist Mike Dirnt. Despite this casting prediction, yesterday, the California trio announced their plans to create a comedy film based on their early years as a group.
Per an exclusive Variety report, the film is titled New Year’s Rev, developed with Green Day, and will be produced by Live Nation Productions. Written and directed by Lee Kirk, it follows three friends—portrayed by Mason Thames (The Black Phone), Kylr Coffman (Outbreak), and Ryan Foust (The Goldfinch)—as they road trip to Los Angeles, CA, mistakenly believing they’re opening a concert for Green Day.

Armstrong shares in a statement to Variety, “Van days rule. You will drive all night on no sleep then play a show for 10 kids in a basement of a friend of a friend’s house 50 miles east of anywhere you’ve ever heard of. But you’ll do it again the next day, and the one after that. Because you’re doing it with your bandmates who become your family and it’s unlike anything you’ve ever known. It’s electric. Let the music and mischief ensue.”
Per the IMDb logline, the film is about “Three buddies drive cross-country in a van, causing mayhem and mischief while racing to LA for their big break: opening for Green Day on New Year’s Eve.”
There is not currently a release date set for the film. However, it is in production in Oklahoma.
While the film is not a biopic, we’re sticking with the fact that idobi Radio predicted the Green Day film.
