“Some bands, when they go away for a while, people start talking bad about you.” said Benji, guitarist for Good Charlotte.
“It’s good to come home and see all you kids still supporting us,” said lead singer, Joel, finishing his twin’s comment.
Good Charlotte has always been a live band. Both their Self-Titled debut, as well as their sophomore effort, The Young and The Hopeless, tries to capture their spirit – and while some of the fun shines through the recording, nothing can match the energy of their live show.
Playing to a packed crowd for their CD Release at the 9:30 Club, the boys held a free show for fans that bought their album.
Launching into The Anthem, the band jumped, shook and spun the audience into a frenzy. The crowd formed an undulating wave, jumping along with music – periodically breaking formation to form a mosh pit.
From Paul’s distinctive bass and Billy’s electrifying distortions to the twin’s tight harmonies, the band held the crowd enthralled. Whether it was the personal message in their lyrics or kids just having fun, you could see the crowd respond to every note, feeling a personal connection to the performance.
Looking past their performance, Good Charlotte success in their live shows is not because of their connection with each other, and the way they can read each other on stage; their success is because of their connection to their fans. Good Charlotte is a positive band with a positive message, and that is something their fans appreciate.
