Only at the irreverent MTV Movie Awards could “Dude, Where’s My Car” get a nomination.
For his role in the critically maligned goofball-comedy, Ashton Kutcher, a regular on “That ’70s Show,” received a nod Tuesday for best male breakthrough performance.
Other nominees in the category included Jack Black in “High Fidelity,” Patrick Fugit for “Almost Famous” and Hugh Jackman for “X-Men.”
After claiming an Oscar for best picture, “Gladiator” had five nominations, including nods for best movie and best male performer for star Russell Crowe, who won an Oscar for the role.
The island drama “Cast Away” and the teen-romance “Save the Last Dance” each had four nominations.
The awards show is scheduled for broadcast June 7. Hosts will be “Saturday Night Live” performer Jimmy Fallon and “Bring it On” star Kirsten Dunst.
The ceremony features a number of unusual categories, including honours for “best fight,” “best villain” and “favorite line.”
In an apparent snub, former MTV star Tom Green failed to place in the “best kiss” category for the scene in “Road Trip” in which he licked a mouse.
