Former Devil Wears Prada Drummer Daniel Williams Passes Away in Plane Crash

Daniel Williams

Daniel Williams, former drummer of The Devil Wears Prada, tragically died in a plane crash in San Diego, CA. He was serving as co-pilot alongside the late music executive Dave Shapiro at the time of the accident. He was 39 years old.

A founding member of the band, Williams played on formative releases including Dear Love: A Beautiful Discord (2006), Plagues (2007), With Roots Above And Branches Below (2009), Dead Throne (2011), 8:18 (2013), and the Space EP (2015), before departing the group in July 2016.

Williams shared several images on his Instagram Stories, tagging Dave Shapiro, as well as an image of the controls in the plane’s cockpit with the caption, “Hey. Hey you…look at me…I’m the (co)pilot now.”

The Devil Wears Prada has shared a carousel of photos featuring both Williams and Shapiro on Instagram with the caption, “no words. We owe you everything. Love you forever.”

Artists and fans alike have flooded to Williams’ Instagram comments to offer their condolences and share stories.

We The Kings shared on Instagram, “I hope in some way you can sense all the love coming your way as has always been the case. You were ALWAYS a great time and I loved coming up in the scene at the same time as you. I hope to wake up to hear that they got the names wrong and that you are still very much here. I’m grateful that I got to know you and to call you a friend. Rest in peace, love you man”

Adam Gontier of Three Days Grace shares, “This is really sad man. The whole thing. Just terrible.”

During this unimaginable time, the entire idobi team sends our deepest condolences to Daniel Williams’ family, friends, loved ones, former bandmates, and fans.
