Fandango began selling tickets today for the nation’s largest-ever live entertainment broadcast: a concert by recording groups Sugar Ray and Uncle Kracker, which will be telecast live from The Tabernacle in Atlanta, Ga., on Aug. 15.
Tickets are available at www.fandango.com for 14 Cinemark Theatre locations nationwide.
Tickets can be purchased at Fandango’s Web site for $15 each. The concert begins at 8 p.m. Eastern Time and will not only be broadcast as it happens, but will also feature exclusive behind-the-scenes interviews and event coverage that only fans attending the simulcast will be able to see.
“Sugar Ray’s concert represents a huge opportunity for the exhibition industry and a great chance for people who wouldn’t otherwise get to see a live event to have the experience,” said Art Levitt, president and chief executive officer of Fandango Inc.
The concert represents the first time Fandango has sold tickets for an event other than the movies since it began operations in June 2000.
“Cinemark Theatres has demonstrated its innovation by hosting this unique concert event, which allows Fandango and exhibitors to expand beyond the movies,” Levitt said.
Terrell Falk, vice president of marketing and communications for Cinemark USA Inc., added: “Cinemark is excited to be involved in such an exciting event. We will continue to look into broadcasting alternative programming in our theaters.”
Formed in 1999, Cinema Presents has developed and implemented a first-of-its-kind, turnkey in-cinema network for the satellite distribution of live concerts and special programming events. Cinema Presents plans to offer a wide variety of in-theater programming on weeknights.
Lava/Atlantic multiplatinum recording group Sugar Ray recently released its fourth CD, “Sugar Ray,” which debuted in the Top 10 on the Billboard 200. Top Dog/Lava/Atlantic recording artist Uncle Kracker released his debut CD, “Double Wide,” late last year; the album went platinum in April.
Sugar Ray and Uncle Kracker are currently on a major tour of the United States that began in July and continues through August. Fandango offers advance tickets for more than 4,500 movie screens nationwide through its Web site at www.fandango.com and by telephone at 800/555-TELL.
