Fall Out Boy Name Dropped on It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia

Fall Out Boy It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia

The gang is officially back together for season 17 of the It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia sitcom, and this ain’t a scene, it’s a goddamn arms race! The long-running sitcom kicked off its latest season on Wednesday, July 2, 2025, with a double-episode premiere on FX. The debut sees the crew diving back into their Abbott Elementary crossover. Spoilers ahead!

In the latest episode, Fall Out Boy gets an unexpected (and hilarious) shoutout. While trying to exploit the students at Abbott Elementary school, Dennis and Charlie pitch a bold idea: remix Billy Joel’s “We Didn’t Start the Fire” with updated, modern-day references. He’s quickly shot down by Janine Teagues (Quinta Brunson)—who informs them that Fall Out Boy already did that in 2023, releasing their own version of the iconic track with reworked lyrics touching on current events.

The revelation sends the gang into a full-blown fit, especially Dennis and Charlie, who’s devastated that Pete Wentz and company scooped his “original” idea. You can watch the full episode now on Hulu.

Last week, Fall Out Boy announced that guitarist Joe Trohman would, unfortunately, be unable to join the band on their upcoming performance dates.

In a post jointly shared between Trohman and the band on Monday, July 7, he wrote, “Hey everyone, After years of managing ongoing issues with my righthand, it’s become clear that I need surgery to avoid permanent damage. Unfortunately, this means I’ll have to take the rest of the year off from playing with the band. The silver lining is that I’m on track for a full recovery. The band will still be playing all scheduled shows. I’m looking forward to recovering so I can get back out there with the guys. Thanks so much for the love and support. Joe”
