Here’s some rather prophetic news: Fahrenheit 451 is coming to HBO this spring. The new film stars Michael B. Jordan and Michael Shannon, along with Sofia Boutella and Lilly Singh, and is directed by Ramin Bahrani and written by Bahrani & Amir Naderi.
Based on the classic novel of the same name by Ray Bradbury, the dystopian story follows Jordan’s character Montag, a young “fireman” who has to burn the possessions of those who read banned books. When he begins to question his role, he begins stashing away forbidden books and battling his mentor, fire captain Beatty, portrayed by Shannon. Boutella plays the informant Clarisse, and Singh plays Raven, a tabloid reporter who helps to spread book-burning propaganda. Now is the perfect time for this film to debut and add another chilling reminder about the importance of freedom of expression. It’s also the perfect time to re-read the novel so it’s fresh in your mind for the new movie, coming soon to HBO.
