Eminem recently received praise from an unlikely source: Nobel Prize winning poet Seamus Heaney, according to the NME.com. Heaney praised the controversial rapper for his “verbal energy.”
When asked if there was someone in popular culture who aroused interest in poetry and lyrics like Bob Dylan and John Lennon, Heaney told the BBC, “There is a guy Eminem. He has created a sense of what is possible. He has sent a voltage around a generation. He has done this not just through his subversive attitude but also his verbal energy.”
In related news, Eminem’s ex-wife Kim Mathers was released on $750 bail after pleading not guilty to cocaine possession charges in a Michigan court on Tuesday (July 1). Mathers could face up to five years in jail if found guilty. She is next due in court on September 9 and must undergo drug testing until her next court date.
Mathers was pulled over while driving her Cadillac Escalade on June 10. Police discovered nearly 25 grams of cocaine in the glove compartment. Mathers was charged with cocaine possession and two driving violations.
