Horror fans are gearing up for The Conjuring: Last Rites release, due out in theaters on September 5. However, ahead of its premiere, Cinemark debuted the *official* movie popcorn bucket, and fans have some thoughts.
Shaped like the iconic and incredibly haunted Annabelle doll, this popcorn bucket is filled from behind. Naturally, the internet did not come to play with jokes and user-experience design criticisms.
One user commented under Cinemark’s Instagram post, “Assabelle.” Another user joked, “Heck, naw, I wouldn’t take that if it was free. I ain’t trying to fafo playing with Annabelle a s s no sir.”
Of course, many social media users came out of the woodwork to compare the Annabelle popcorn bucket to the infamous Dune popcorn bucket.
Beyond the butt jokes, users shared their distaste for the poor design. One Twitter/X user commented, “Oof, not even a trap door. Just a big noticeable hole in the back.” Another user noted, “We need to re-evaluate what a popcorn bucket is supposed to do! This does not hold hardly any popcorn at all.”
Plus, some people just found the design downright ugly. A Reddit user shared, “Reneesemee puppet looked better than this.”
Cinemark is set to begin sales of the Annabelle popcorn bucket on August 22.
However, if you’re more of a Regal fan, the movie theater chain is also offering its version of The Conjuring: Last Rites popcorn bucket featuring Annabelle. This design features a typical popcorn bucket with Annabelle attached…watching you with each bite.
