Lava Recording artist Cherie is on track to having a huge summer hit with her debut single “I’m Ready.” The song, which recently was the #2 most added song at the Top 40 radio format, entered the Top 40 chart this week at #37 and is currently being spun by key stations across the country, including KIIS FM/ Los Angeles, WXKS/Boston, WIOQ/ Philly, Y100/ Miami and Star/ Atlanta. The single is available commercially beginning today, Tuesday, May 4th, as an enhanced CD that will feature special bonus material, including remixes of “I’m Ready,” the track “Fool,” from her upcoming album release, and behind-the-scenes footage.
Cherie’s up-tempo breakthrough single features the familiar guitar lick from Foreigner’s “Urgent” and was showcased as the main title theme for the Disney film, Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen, starring Lindsay Lohan. Having received its official debut as part of the America Online Service’s Breakers program, the song can be heard all over television in on-air promos for CBS, Lifetime and UPN, and will also be featured in the new national advertising campaign for Dell Computers. Cherie just wrapped production on the video for “I’m Ready,” which was shot in LA by director Liz Friedlander, whose video credits include Kelly Clarkson, Avril Lavigne, and Simple Plan among others. The video is scheduled to debut on AOL on May 7th.
Cherie is Lava Records’ latest discovery and France’s best-kept secret. Her dynamic self-titled debut is set for release on July 13th and is already being met with critical praise. Billboard Magazine recently called Cherie “a newcomer to watch” and described her debut single as “absolutely brilliant,” while the New Yorker called her vocal talent “remarkably appealing,” saying she has “the vocal power of Whitney Houston with the feel-good-around-the-edges shimmer of Shania Twain.” Quite astounding accolades for a nineteen year old singer who has yet to release an album.
Cherie can be seen in Elle Magazine’s upcoming music issue, out this July, and E! Entertainment Television has declared her “one of the new It Girls of Pop.” Having received its official debut as part of the America Online Service’s Breakers program, Cherie’s music has been played over 250,000 times on the AOL Music(R) channel. In addition, Cherie has announced that she will be opening for The Corrs on both their US and European tours this summer.
