Beetlejuice’s Catherine O’Hara Has Died At 71

According to multiple reports, actress and comedian Catherine O’Hara, best known for her roles on Schitt’s Creek, Beetlejuice, and Home Alone, has died at the age of 71. Born in Toronto in 1954, the beloved star leaves behind a husband, Robert W. Welch III, and two sons, Matthew and Luke Welch.

O’Hara first gained prominence in the comedy world in the late ’70s on the beloved Canadian sketch comedy show SCTV, which featured the likes of fellow comedy legends John Candy, Eugene Levy, Andrea Martin, and beyond. From TV sketch comedy, she showed her chops on movie screens, appearing on Home Alone and Home Alone 2: Lost In New York as Kate McCallister.

The actress truly is a staple of goth and alternative culture, working frequently with Tim Burton. Beyond her work as Sally and Shock in The Nightmare Before Christmas, O’Hara starred as Delia Deetz in Beetlejuice and its recent sequel, and she offered multiple voices on Frankenweenie. Plus, O’Hara appeared in A Series of Unfortunate Events starring Jim Carrey.

Of course, the actress has also been lauded and awarded with an Emmy for her work as Moira Rose in Schitt’s Creek, alongside her early SCTV co-star Eugene Levy. Most recently, the beloved star appeared in HBO’s The Last Of Us as Gail Lynden and Apple TV’s The Studio as Patty Leigh.

Macaulay Culkin, who portrayed Kevin McCallister, shared on Instagram, “Mama. I thought we had time. I wanted more, I wanted to sit in a chair next to you, I heard you. But I had so much more to say. I love you. I’ll see you later.” So…sorry if you need a whole box of tissues right now.
