The Kentwood, Louisiana, pop princess wrapped a week of shooting on Monday (March 19) in nearby Baton Rouge, New Orleans and Hammond, according to the Louisiana Film and Video Commission.
The film, titled “What Are Friends For,” according to the Commission, stars Spears as a model student who reunites with two former friends on a cross-country road trip. Along the way, they meet a would-be musician who persuades them to go to Los Angeles to compete in a musical contest.
Tamra Davis (“Billy Madison,” “Half Baked”) is directing the movie, which has a $10 million budget, relatively low by industry standards. Spokespeople for Spears have been tight-lipped about the project and would not reveal more details, including a potential release date.
The pop star turned thespian will also turn up as part of this Sunday’s Academy Awards telecast, but she won’t be sharing the stage with Julia Roberts or Russell Crowe. The singer’s first Pepsi commercial will air during ABC’s Oscar broadcast, and will debut online (at www.pepsi.yahoo.com/britney) two hours before the Oscar telecast begins at 8 p.m. ET.
