The body of Lisa “Left Eye” Lopes was shipped by jet Monday (April 29) from Honduras to Atlanta, according to Carlos Bakota, a spokesperson for the U.S. Embassy in Honduras. Lopes’ autopsy was completed over the weekend.
“The ambassador [Frank Almaguer] made sure that the officials doing the medical work got it done as quickly as possible,” Bakota said.
Bill Diggins, who manages TLC, released a statement Monday saying that there will be a memorial Wednesday in Atlanta for the pop star’s loved ones, and that Left Eye’s funeral will be held on Thursday in the New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Lithonia, Georgia, at 11 a.m. A spokesperson for the church said the funeral arrangements are tentative until the body arrives in the States, and said the funeral will be open to the public.
Lopes was killed on Thursday evening in Honduras when the SUV she was driving flipped over and she suffered fatal head trauma. Eight others were in the vehicle with her and all were rushed to the hospital. Half the people were released and the other four remained hospitalized in stable condition on Friday.
Lopes’ mother, Wanda Lopes, and her family released a statement through Diggins expressing heartfelt thanks to the thousands of fans that have sent messages of condolences to them at this tragic time.
