Alison Krauss will take some time off from her band, Union Station featuring Jerry Douglas, to tour with Robert Plant next year in support of their new album, Raising Sand . In the meantime, the members of Union Station will pursue individual musical projects.Released Oct. 23, Raising Sand has already sold more than 340,000 copies in the U.S. The project is Krauss’ first collaboration with the Led Zeppelin vocalist.
Denise Stiff, Krauss’ manager, says the tour with Plant will take the duo to various venues in the U. S. and Europe in 2008. Cities and dates are still being determined.
“They both agreed when they started this project that they would do limited touring,” says Stiff.
Dobro player Douglas will also take to the road next year with his own band, as will guitarist-vocalist Dan Tyminski, who has formed a bluegrass group. Guitarist and banjo player Ron Block will be out promoting his current album, DoorWay , and is producing an album on 15-year-old mandolin prodigy Sierra Hull for Rounder Records. Union Station bass player Barry Bales will work in Tyminski’s band
Stiff speculates that Krauss and Union Station will record a follow-up CD to this year’s album, A Hundred Miles or More: A Collection , before returning to the road together.
Krauss and Plant recently taped an episode of CMT Crossroads near Nashville, but no air date has been announced.
