Believe it or not, in April 2015, Sabrina Carpenter released her debut album Eyes Wide Open. (yes, she has been grinding in the music industry well before the launch of “Espresso.”) This isn’t the only important record released a decade ago.
Notably, 2015 was the release year of some of the most iconic records in the alternative scene—from indie to pop-punk. These 2015 albums are turning 10 this April 2025, and we still can’t believe it.
Tom DeLonge — To The Stars…Demos, Odds and Ends
Released: April 21, 2015 via To The Stars
After parting ways with blink-182 in January 2015, Tom DeLonge released his debut solo project To The Stas…Demos, Odds, and Ends mere months later. With singles such as “New World” and “Circle-Jerk Pit,” DeLonge aimed to share tracks originally meant for use in blink-182 and Angels And Airwaves. Notably, DeLonge co-founded To The Stars, Inc., a company dedicated to entertainment and media production, as well as investigating UFOs. (Yup, DeLonge is an avid believer in aliens!)
Halestorm — Into The Wild Life
Released: April 10, 2015 via Atlantic Records
Halestorm dropped Into The Wild Life a decade ago, and it doesn’t feel real. This album, which arrived on April 10, 2015, brought one of Halestorm’s most popular tracks of their discography to the forefront: “I Am The Fire.” The LP also featured singles “Apocalyptic,” “Amen,” “Mayhem,” and “Sick Individual,” which showcase the timeless hard rock melodies and soaring vocals of Lzzy Hale we’ve known and loved since their 2009 major label debut.
Matt and Kim — New Glow
Released: April 7, 2015 via Harvest Records
Matt and Kim took the world by storm in 2009 with their instantly iconic “Daylight” and have remained staples of the indie world ever since. In 2015, they dropped New Glow‘s sole single “Get It” in January before releasing their 10-track LP in early April. Initially, the duo didn’t set out to make a record, but it ultimately turned into a happy accident. Here, they blended many genre styles outside of their norm, such as punk and EDM.
From First To Last — Dead Trees
Released: April 25, 2015 via Sumerian Records
Sonny Moore, aka Skrillex, may be best known for fronting From First To Last, but on this record, he was pursuing other creative outlets. So, the FFTL crew recruited Periphery‘s Spencer Sotelo to perform as their frontman. Initially, Dead Trees was intended to be an EP, but the band successfully surpassed their crowdfunding campaign and had the ability to make a full record.
Alabama Shakes — Sound & Color
Released: April 17, 2015 via ATO Records
Alabama Shakes‘ sophomore LP Sound & Color was and is a true revelation. Brittany Howard‘s striking voice and the ensemble’s blues and roots-infused melodies are nothing short of mesmerizing. The record received rave reviews from critics and fans and took home four Grammy wins for Best Alternative Music Album, Best Engineered Album-Non-Classical, Best Rock Performance (“Don’t Wanna Fight”), and Best Rock Song (“Don’t Wanna Fight.”)
Joywave — How Do You Feel Now?
Released: April 21, 2015 via Cult Music Records
Sorry to make all you indie-rock lovers feel old… but, yes, Joywave‘s debut album How Do You Feel Now? is officially 10 years old. Preceded by their 2014 EP, How Do You Feel?, the band’s first album boasts singles “Tongues,” “Somebody New,” “Destruction,” and “Now.” Joywave also appears on Big Data‘s “Dangerous” in 2015, too. The beloved electronic-rock bop still remains the most-streamed song on Spotify for both artists.
The Wombats — Glitterbug
Released: April 13, 2015 via 14th Floor Records
British pop-rockers The Wombats released Glitterbug a decade ago and the genre was forever changed. The trio launched their fan-favorite “Greek Tragedy” and a dark, satirical music video to pair with it. (Hey, sometimes stan culture does, in fact, go too far.) The synth-fueled indie-rock album also contains singles “Your Body Is A Weapon,” “Give Me A Try,” “Be Your Shadow,” and “Emoticons.”
