Adam Ant Faces Charges in Pub Fight

Adam Ant, the punk-turned-pop musician who scored hits in the 1980s, faces assault and weapons charges after a scuffle in a London pub, police said Monday.

The 47-year-old singer, whose real name is Stuart Goddard, was arrested Saturday night at the Prince of Wales pub in north London.

He was charged with possession of a firearm or imitation firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, and with criminal damage and assault. He allegedly attacked a man in his 40s, police said.

The Sun tabloid reported that Ant threatened to open fire when he was refused entrance to a private party.

He was released on bail and ordered to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates’ Court on Friday.

Ant, the former leader of the new wave group Adam and the Ants, had solo hits including “Goody Two Shoes” and “Strip.” He’s scheduled to headline a 1980s nostalgia tour this spring.
