'8 Mile' Rapper Shot, Recovering

A Detroit man who appeared in the Eminem movie “8 Mile” is recovering after being shot in the stomach on the film’s opening night. Ali Miyzaan, 26, said he was shot about 11:30 p.m. Nov. 8 in the parking lot of Phoenix Theaters, which is on Eight Mile road in Detroit.

He said a group of men was trying to rob high school students, striking them with sticks and boards. “I sat there for a minute watching, but I couldn’t stand to see it anymore,” Miyzaan told the Detroit Free Press. “I was really just trying to stop it.”

He said the men gave him a concussion and that he was sitting on the ground when a man walked up and shot him. Officers said they heard at least five gunshots as they approached the theater, said Glen Woods, a Detroit police spokesman. No arrests have been made.

Miyzaan is a local rapper. He appears in “8 Mile,” but doesn’t have a speaking role.

“8 Mile” was the No. 1 film in the U.S. after its debut last weekend, while its Shady/Interscope soundtrack tops The Billboard 200 for a second straight week. Eminem’s single “Lose Yourself” tops the Hot 100 for a third.
