Jagwar Twin is currently on fire, to say the least. At the top of this month, he celebrated his hit song, “Bad Feeling (Oompa Loompa)” entering the Billboard Top 40 charts at #39. This comes after the song was already sweeping across the Hot Alternative Songs and Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. The tune was also TikTok’s Viral 50 Chart and Global Spotify Viral 50 charts. It has certainly been a big year so far for the singer, songwriter, producer, and storyteller, Roy English who performs under the alias of Jagwar Twin.

Today we go back to his 2022 album release, 33, to revisit a special tune from the effort. Jagwar Twin nuzzled “Soul Is A Star“, an incredible track, right in the middle of the record. “Soul Is A Star” is an infatuating narrative, taking the lister on a journey of immersive story-telling. The first verse opens with, “I met a Man / Who had a Son / But he lost him to The World / He said my Son was a singer / He wrote songs you never heard,” before quickly taking a gut-wrenching turn. The set-up for the chorus goes, “He took his life / He gave it up / Before Prophets ever turned / Man said I don’t mean to linger / Can I sing you just one verse?”
The song goes on to deliver a powerful chorus and continues the story through the lens of different characters throughout the remainder of the track. The captivating nature of the song is reminiscent of an old folk song, perhaps by the likes of Joni Mitchell. This actually makes perfect sense because she and Jagwar Twin are both credited as songwriters on the track. It is quite an impressive, and ideal crossover of talent.
