The chemistry between YUNGBLUD, the mastermind that is Dom Harrison, and Bring Me The Horizon’s Oli Sykes is undeniable. Marking their second collaboration together following 2020’s “Obey,” the two enigmatic vocalists have teamed up once again for “HAPPIER.”
Last week, YUNGBLUD began teasing the collaborative track with a sped-up soundbite of the chorus featuring the lyrics, “If I could tell you how I feel/I know that you’re still hurting too/No I’m not broken/I’m just scared to belong here, scared to be happier,” with the first half of the chorus courtesy of Sykes. While BLUD didn’t reveal Sykes’ involvement at the time, fans were quick to spot the Bring Me The Horizon vocalist’s distinctive delivery.

Set against a captivating hyper-pop backdrop, YUNGBLUD and Sykes’s vocals stand out with a radiant brilliance. Their voices soar above the dazzling synth arrangements, enveloping the listener in a kaleidoscope of electronic textures and melodies.
Speaking on behalf of the inspiration behind “HAPPIER,” YUNGBLUD shares, “I have almost been conditioned by myself my whole life to be in pain. When I’m in pain, I work better. I function better because I have something to combat. It’s dark, but it’s all I’ve ever known. The feeling of happiness is scary because you feel like it’s all about to go wrong. I have always felt that if I’m happy, I’ll get complacent, so it’s lost me a lot of opportunit[ies] for friendships and relationships in the past.”
“I got really emotional when writing this,” he continues. “And I was craving another YUNGBLUD song that would burn in my stomach, make me feel like it’s all gonna be okay, encourage me to fight back against old habits, and try my best to realign myself to be better. It’s okay to find happiness, it’s okay to feel it. I hope you find a little bit of it in this song. You deserve it. Everyone does.”
