twenty one pilots aren’t going to “Backslide” on their new song. The duo has released the third single from their highly anticipated album, Clancy, which drops on May 24, through Fueled By Ramen. Drummer Josh Dun directs the accompanying music video, which features an obvious call back to one of their most popular eras.
A mellow beat begins with the track, contrasting frontman Tyler Joseph‘s monotone, almost harsh rapping. The video starts with a shot of a corner store, where Joseph purchases hamburger buns, before hopping on his bike and riding down changing scenes from suburban streets to darkened backgrounds. This motif harkens to their “Stressed Out” music video, where Joseph and Dun ride down suburban streets on small three-wheeler bicycles. With “Backslide,” showing a normal, two-wheeler bike, perhaps demonstrates that the Ohioans have grown up and fear decisions that might move them back towards darker days.
Fans can anticipate more music videos from twenty one pilots before their seventh studio album comes out next month. In a post on Twitter/X, Joseph said, “We are shooting a music video for every song on Clancy.” The 13-track LP boasts previous singles, “Overcompensate” and “Next Semester,” and will continue to excite listeners as each video is released.
The act recently announced their tour that will make stops in North America, the UK, and Europe, later this year. Grab tickets here, and check out the tour dates below.
