With more than 2 years passing since The Veronicas‘ double-album release in May and June 2021, consisting of GODZILLA and HUMAN, the Aussie twin-sister duo has made their triumphant return with their brand-new single, “Perfect.” Featuring drumming expertise from the man, the myth, the legend—blink-182’s Travis Barker—the new single seamlessly navigates across a fusion of anthemic rock and playful pop, creating a comeback track that’s nothing short of…well, perfect.
Crafted in collaboration with John Feldmann (blink-182, Avril Lavigne, YUNGBLUD) and expertly co-produced by Ryan Linville (Olivia Rodrigo), “Perfect” taps into the quintessential sound we all fell in love with when The Veronicas released their 2007 hit single “Untouched.” The duo’s latest effort is almost like an exquisite “welcome home” to the band, who became a staple of the alt-pop/emo world in the mid-aughts.

Piercing through a tidal wave of ‘90s-inspired distorted guitar work and the thunderous percussion courtesy of Barker, Jessie and Lisa Origliasso inject the track with their vibrant harmonies and command the listener’s attention through the explosive chorus, “No one makes it out alive/There’s no point in your pretty lies/Fuck designer, start a riot/Perfect’s gone….” Should someone call Kevin Lyman…because we’re in need of a Warped Tour lineup with The Veronicas leading the charge.
Interestingly, the duo drew inspiration from one of their favorite quotes courtesy of artist Caroline Caldwell, which reads, “In a society that profits from your self-doubt, loving yourself is a rebellious act.” Of the track, The Veronicas share, “‘Perfect’ is a love letter to our younger and current selves. Perfection has a different meaning for everyone. Social media has changed how we interact with the world. Perception verse reality is rewarded and condemned. From what people wear to who they date. It’s like a magnifying glass. We just want to remind everyone to empower themselves and free their minds. We all die in the end; we have to live with and love ourselves fiercely, first and foremost. On our deathbeds, the only opinion that will matter on how you’ve lived will be your own.”

And to make things even sweeter, “Perfect” is just the first taste of plenty of new music that is headed our way from The Veronicas. While no official date has been disclosed, “Perfect” acts as the leading single from the duo’s forthcoming full-length Gothic Summer, which is slated to arrive via Big Noise in 2024 and is currently available to presave here.
